The Diocese of Badulla officially opened the Jubilee Year 2025 "The Jubilee of Hope, with an inaugural Holy Mass celebrated by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Jude N. Silva, Bishop of Badulla, at St. Mary's Cathedral, Badulla. The Mass coincided with the Feast of the Epiphany, offering a profound message of faith and renewal.

In his homily, Bishop Silva reflected on the significance of the Epiphany, emphasizing the importance of allowing Christ to manifest in our lives. He said, "When Jesus manifested Himself to the three Wise Men, they were saved from evil. But King Herod remained consumed by darkness, as he did not have the privilege of encountering Christ. This feast calls us to reflect on how we can experience the manifestation of God in our lives. Such an experience is only possible by allowing God to work within us."

Enriched by centuries of Church tradition, jubilees are special times of spiritual renewal, forgiveness, and unity, Bishop mentioned. He also invited the faithful to embark on pilgrimages to the designated Jubilee Churches within the diocese throughout the Jubilee Year. He highlighted the importance of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, encouraging everyone to trust in God’s mercy and receive Sacrament of Reconciliation as a meaningful step in entering through the Holy Door.

After the Mass, Bishop Silva blessed and ceremonially opened the first Holy Door in the Diocese at the Cathedral. Bishop entered through the Holy Door leading the congregation. The faithful renewed their baptismal promises after entering. The celebration concluded with the Bishop blessing the congregation.
